U15s Lift Mid Solent League Cup

GBYFC U15’s lifted the Mid Solent league cup last night after a nail biting match against Baffin’s Milton Rovers at Havant & Waterlooville’s West leigh Park Stadium, Winning 3-2

It was the teams first trophy win after finishing 2nd in the league to Havant & Waterlooville and what made this trophy a little more special is that it was the same cup which the team got to the final of last year before Covid cancelled the football. Already beating league winners Havant in the semi final in a tense 3-2 win the boys had it all to do again. And in the great Gosport Borough tradition we didn’t make it easy on ourselves

The team got off to a great start with an early 2 -0 lead with chances going begging from both teams, and at half time the lads were buzzing. Baffin’s though had other ideas scoring early in the second half to make it 2-1. And with 20 minutes remaining scored an equaliser to make it 2-2

In the last 20 minutes both teams had a fair few chances to score what might of been the winner however  With just 7 minutes of the game left a clearance from Gosport was not cleared well by the Baffin’s defence and Alfie Hilton pinched the ball off the defender. Laying it off to Oli Mahoney who played the ball to the right side of the 18 yard box for Aiden Farndell to take one touch before burying the shot past the keeper into the bottom left corner scoring the winning goal to secure a 3-2 win and the trophy.

At the final whistle the celebrations and relief of the players was evident and there were smiles all around the remaining supporters faces. A special word must go out to the 3 players from the Borough who never got the opportunity to get on the pitch. Their attitude showed what a great group of kids they all are and what a team this is
