Ladies

Fran Derbyshire – Manager of Gosport Borough Ladies

I am a huge advocate for the growth of the women’s game and feel passionately that everyone should be given an opportunity to play, coach or get involved in anyway they want to.  At Borough, our vision is simple – every female that wants to play, can play, regardless of age or ability. From the 4 year olds running around on a Sunday morning with our Weetabix Wildcats programme, to the Ladies teams on a Sunday afternoon in the Hampshire leagues, our door will always be open.

How does the future look for Gosport Borough Ladies?

Gosport Borough Ladies has seen a huge growth in female participation recently with the club growing from having the bear 11 players for matches to having over 30 ladies regularly at training enabling us to create a second team for the 21/22 season. It is fantastic to see so many ladies getting involved and having fun.

The aim is to replicate the structure and success that Gosport Borough Youth have with their boys’ teams and elevate the girls game to prominence in the club.

We are creating a structure within our female teams where girls can join our club at a young age and develop through a clearly defined player pathway into our ladies teams. Our hope is to develop a coaching pathway for our ladies to coach the younger teams, enabling the youth teams to have role models and aspirations.

Our youngest girls can join our FA Weetabix Wildcats Centre at 5 years of age held on a Sunday morning 9am – 10am and then join age group teams when old enough. Players 16+ can join our ladies teams. The success and development of our Ladies teams recently have given the club further momentum to grow female football at Gosport Borough.

The club is extremely keen to hear from any female players wishing to join Gosport Borough and contact details are gosportblfc@gmail.com

If you have a child ages 5-11years old who would like to get involved then please follow this link and sign them up to Weetabix Wildcats Weetabix Wildcats – Fun Football Centres for girls by the Football Association (thefa.com)

Meet the Gosport Borough Ladies Captain – Charlotte Lindsay

I have played for Borough since I was 10 years old, playing for the boys youth teams. Since then, I have played for Brighton and had trials for Hampshire but I cannot resist the pull of the Borough and returned to Gosport Ladies and have played for them for 4 years. I am extremely proud to be the Captain of this amazing team and the club ethos remains the same, a club for all!
Our Borough family is continuing to grow with more women then ever taking up an interest in joining us allowing the club to submit two teams for the coming season, and I couldn’t be more excited!
Moving forward, the ladies are giving back to the community and young girls by initiating the Wildcats programme alongside Gosport Borough Youth. I am really excited to be able to be involved in this and developing football for young girls in Gosport.
